can't wait to go back - laid back - nothing fancy....but great experience - left with garnets we mined ourselves in one hour

Had a great time with the family here! Highly recommended for all ages.

We were expecting an underground mine instead of a strip mining quarry. One area is blocked off. The garnet you "mine" is very small. The guide said they never replenish the areas where you mine. I can't really see any way to get a big stone if you're sifting through the same stuff again and again. You can stay as long as you like but you must go back to the mineral shop after 45 mins then follow the next group down. It would be easier to let people stay down at the quarry. The place was a little disappointing but would still be worth a trip. Also they provide no tools so all you get is a shifter and a bucket for water.

The garnet were everywhere so it's good for kids that do not have a lot of patience the only thing is the map and my GPS said 1.4 miles and it was like 3 miles on a rough road

We weren't sure what to do but Liam the tour guide gave us the history of Gore MTN and the garnet mine. We went about our venture and scoured the grounds for garnet stones wether it be itsy bitsy or a bit bigger. We came away with our small but treasured stones. We did manage to pick up some bigger stones that had bigger garnets in them. Would I go back again ? Most likely. We would be a bit more knowledgeable of what to do. After all where else can you go mining for garnets?
